similliar neck profile to try out. I did try out the Vintage Hot Rod 62 Strat which has a very beefy neck and I liked it, however it does have a 1.650"
width at the nut, would getting a wider nut width make it harder to reach around a beefy neck?

It's fretting out like crazy, no buzz. Though it has to do with the frets being worn out as well. I replaced them about a year ago and after about two
months flattened them already, that's why i'm going with SS on this one, I can't afford fret works 6 times a year.

Regarding the flat radius, acoustic guitars have 16-20" radius and I don't see anyone complaining really, though they are a bit harder to play.

Tough one. I don't think Fender makes any necks currently that are both wide and fat.
The Vintage Hot Rod '62 has the fat neck but is 1.650" at the nut. The American Standard is 1 11/16" at the nut but is not really fat....

Maybe the Fender experts around here will know and hopefully chime in.

Hi LC,
first of all, how did the 1.650 width at the nut feel to you? If it felt good you don't wanna go higher (or lower), if it felt just a bit tight, you'd
want to opt for a 1 - 11/16th nut width.
A little wider at the nut makes for a totally different feel IMO. The neck will definitely feel a bit larger.
As far as I'm concerned, too little is far worse than too wide. 1.650" is almost unplayable for me these days - well not exactly, but it is...

Tommy is familiar with an SRV profile and can happily replicate one for you.

As for board radii, I find a well made and well fretted neck with the right amount of fall away (such as a USACG neck) will refuse to choke out, even in
something such as a 7.25 - 9.50 compound radius.

Remember, 9.50 at the twelfth fret means flatter still at the 18th.

I've got some 10-16" inch compound radius necks from before I started doing business with USACG, and they work...
