I think I have a basic notion of the tone differences, but would love to read some discussion from those who have had experience with both body woods.
On another note, here is one of my final appearances with the band (late hours and smoky clothes finally overcame me). We are playing another version of "Bright Lights, Big City." You can hear me use the new trick I had just discovered that let me use the middle/bridge combination as a lead position: I hooked up a Boss Equalizer pedal to my USA Custom Guitar Nashville Tele. It was great. All I had to do was keep the level on the pedal cranked and when a lead came along, just stomp that sucker flat! You can hear it cut right through the mix, and still have her sweet, juicy tone (with full treble [ie: 3/4s of the knob]). The pedal also gave me a lot more sustain. I take the first lead with no pedal and on my rear pickup (CustomShop Nocaster), but then I follow every one else when we take solos and use the settings mentioned above. I am playing through my Fender DRR. My middle pickup is a Fender 57/62. My guitar is a one-piece swamp with a 1/4 sawn maple neck; all finished in Tung Oil (I repeat these specs for new members of the forum).
The clip is here.
Thanks,
Oldraftery
PS Check out "Calamity Jane" scream, "Hell, yeah!" at the end.
