Re: USACG Finished Projects Album | #1
|
My vintage reissue Esquire/Broadcaster hybrid finally nears completion. The project officially got underway when I placed my order for a neck and body with Tommy on May 25, 2001. So, it's going to be almost exactly one year in the making. After spending over US$1000 for parts, I was broke, and so I didn't take the body and neck to my luthier for finishing until the end of last year. And well, he's been really slow. He also got the finish to my liking, but on the final sanding, just before applying the clear nitro top coats, he went through the colour coats. So, I've only just approved the new colour coats. This is the process for the body, as I understand it: 1) Initial prep: sanding sealer and all that. 2) Shellac. 3) Colour coats: first time he used some kind of "enamel" paint, and he's now used an acrylic. The acrylic looks the same, but he's achieved greater transparency, which is good, because the piece of wood Tommy supplied me is absolutely the best piece (actually 2-piece centre-join book-matched) of s. ash I've EVER seen!!!!!! 4) Nitrocellulose clear coats. The colour is actually a light dirty cream, so that when the nitro ages it'll age to a nice light butterscotch, rather than the usual dark butterscotch. That's the theory anyway. |

Excellent idea Nocaster! I'll be switching my forum directly to here real soon! I've just been real busy trying to get the new site up with help from a good friend of ours, yet still trying to conduct business as usual. I do appreciate your efforts, and will be sending more traffic over here as soon as I can. You and the people here are the greatest! Take care and have a great weekend everybody! Tommy.

Hey Tommy. Just finshed up my first Bass VI replica. Want to say thanks for all the work in making one of these for Alfred and I.
All I can say is how amazing this thing plays, thousands of times better than the originals. The neck is an absolute dream! I put up a website with all the details. Here: home.earthlink.net/~manua...index.html |

holy cow...those are some nice looking axes all you guys !!-nice work..
hey Gad...is that a roxy finish ?? 3 color burst ??-nice grain..swamp ash??- it is absolutely the prettiest 3-burst i've ever seen--so subtle in the color transition--i hate bursts that the 3 colors are like 3 separate rings!!--on yours the colors seem to gently blend into 1 another and don't glare at ya-so warm feeling.sweeeeeet !!-thanks for posting the pic. ~T~ |

Bass VI | #14 | ||
|
Brian if you read this awesome ice blue Bass VI. I just spoke to Tommy yesterday and am preparing to order neck and body to do one identical to yours. If I paid you and got all parts, paint etc. could you and your tech in Ohio help me put it altogether? Please email me at trlaw88@hotmail.com or call my office at (215) 561-2323 so we can talk about the project. Thanks...Todd

USA Tele project... | #15
|
OK. I have finished my tele project. Here are the ingredients.
USA Custom Guitar 1 piece alder tele body with belly cut and forearm cut, back routed, and routed for humbucker in the neck. Fender DH1 humbucker. Fender Custom shop bridge pickup. Fender Bridge. Compensated saddles. 5 way switch. Electrostatic cup. USA Custom Guitar neck, back cut to Jimmie V profile. Chrome Locking tuners. Reranch nitrocellulose paints... very very very carefully applied. Very thin coats. Very nice tweed case with brown fur lining. It is all setup with 11's. Tone from heaven to hell. But I have to apologize for the photos And although I got a VERY expensive nikon SLR camera for christmas... and although I took 3 rolls of film over the last two weeks... and although I went from autofocus to manual focus... from natural light to ambient light to the flash... and from asa200 to asa400... I have only one photo that I am willing to share. ![]() Well here is one more that shows the belly and forearm cut ![]() Another project done. |
