Yep, nothing disagreeable there, Tusq which is the creme Graphtech material is used by a lot of manufactures and builders because it is consistent and also comes presized and preslotted which works well if you are building a lot of guitars or, conversely if you are building just one and aren't so confident of cutting a nut well. Nice high quality bone is great , no drama there but as with all things there are compromises and in some cases it doesn't matter all that much.

But, nobody ever said that Graphtech Stringsaver/Tremnut (the black nuts) were great for tone - what they do is ensure tuning stability and minimise string breakage if you are a hard hitter/ bender/whammy type of player who needs tuning stability and reliability throughout a performance. In this case we sacrifice a bit of tone for the ability to play in tune and with all the strings present. Another example of this is the use of Delrin (an industrial bearing material) in some stage guitars that need absolute tuning stability. The black jobs also wear out faster than bone or Tusq but as they come preshaped and preslotted and basically drop in it's also cheaper to fix quickly. This is a classic compromise solution and should be viewed in the context of what is important in a stage/performance guitar - a little bit of tone or playing in tune and which one the punters/audience will notice first.
