I just bought some second-hand 490s with Gibson spacing. I had a look at the info above on Fender vs Gibson string spacing and the ranges recommended for G and F pickups. The info suggests that I could use a 490G neck pickup in my tele neck - it just fits within the recommmended range. Will it be too much of a compromise? Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Has anyone tried a L-610 with the L-200S in the neck and middle positions for a strat? That's the setup I would want to try, but I was wondering if anyone had seen how they interact.

...Best to start a new thread, but I can say that a 609FL48 is a very good choice in the bridge of a Fat Strat, and a 610FL48 should also work well. HTH.

Can somebody please clarify what this means?

Thanks! My E string to E string spacing at the bridge is 2-3/16". Of course the L-500's will be fine but I assume by your response that the
L-609/L-610 will be fine as well (in the BL "F" wide spacing that is). BTW, I'll be giving Becky a call Tuesday - can wait to place my order :-)

Ale1977, the 609/610 is in the nature of a P-90, a more raucous or meaty sounding single coil sound.
I've got a set of 609s on order, and I'm certainly not playing jazz with them. Call Becky Lawrence and tell her what types of sounds you want. She'll steer you in the right direction. Bubbanov |

For both clean and overdriven blues, I like the P90-sound best. As you tend to play bluesy stuff, I'd recommend the L609/L610 set suggested by Becky and
Nocaster. However, if your taste leans more towards fat, humbucker blues, the L90s and L80s are amazing. Both sets will give you plenty of versatility to
also cover jazz and funk styles - especially if you also install a Q-filter.
Of course, "blues" is almost all about technique and a good blues player could make the sky cry using any of Bill's pickups. |

I got some L490s second hand and installed them in that ash Mockingbird under my nick. I was under the impression they were either the same as 290s or a higher
output version, depending on what letter you added to the model name. I was told that 500k pots were recommended and since I put an L280 in the middle
position, I wanted the extra brightness anyway. I noticed that you added a footnote to your original post stating that 250K pots were 'now' recommended
as if there were some sort of change in philosophy. Just curious, because when I got a set of L280s, it came with diagrams noting the pot values to be 250K,
but when I spoke with Becky, she said they recommended 500K.
No biggie either way, I use my tone knob a lot, but there has always been (with me anyway) some mystery behind their product line. Their descriptions are barely one sentence (if that) and to find any real information I have to seek out a blogspot. I would love to see a simple paragraph attached to each model that explains it's place in the grand scheme of things instead of having to call and have Becky recite tonal characteristics that I now have to memorize This thread actually cleared up a few things for me. With the 500K pots they could actually be the P90ish version, but my set blends extremely well with the L280 in the middle and gives me surprising quack and dimension to my notch positions - makes me wonder how they would sound juiced with 250K pots, but not worth losing my dynamic notch positions. I have a set of L290s in another ash guitar with an L250HP in the bridge and 250K pots that also sounds fantastic. Not quite as loud, but fairly similar, especially the neck pup. Ahhh.. so much for a quick reply.. nevermind |
