Something differerent for Strat? |
Lead | ||
|
I already have Strats with 280/280/290 and 200/200/298 combinations (L pickup last) and will soon also have Keystones. I'd like something a bit different
that can still sound like a Strat. U-tube examples haven't given me enough to go on so far, although it's all very interesting! Has anyone put the
L-45s on a Strat and can say whether the guitar is still recognisable as a Strat? That would be necessary for me. Any ideas on how an L-45n/L-45m/L-298L
combination would work? Is that conceivably any better for rock and blues than the threee L-45s? Thanks for any ideas. R

Redhaus Ovayonda wrote:The L-45 is as strat-like as it gets. Bill practically invented the twin rail 30 years ago, and his goal has always been sparkly, clean sounds. These beauties are the most brilliant strat pickups I've ever used. Personally, I wouldn't dream of putting a 298 in bridge position with two L-45s, simply because the L-45 is so versatile. It's far from the high output monster people believe it to be. I wonder if this is down to former experience with Hot Rails, Fast Tracks, BC....I don't get it...I can not comprehend where this misconception comes from |

I installed an L-45 in neck position and it delivers the best balance of strat characteristics that I've heard. Didn't A/B versus 280s but to
referenced to my memory, the L-45 is clearer/glassier without a touch of harshness. While the L-280 sometimes gets a high-fidelity label, I thought the neck
position was actually pretty warm. L-45 should very much please the vintage leaning player.
Totally agree that the twin blade thing is leading to assumptions that this is another strat size replacement (i.e. Dimarzio Chopper, Hot Rail, etc.) not aimed at sounding like a strat - not the case. |

Thanks very much for that- now I know where I'm going. Do these involve the new microcoil design by any chance?
Sorry, Redhaus, I've not had the pleasure to test these new, true single coil micro wonders yet. It's easy to assume things- I do it all the time, I assume.....

And the same for Tele? | #5 | ||

Thanks for the responses- very helpful. I'm a convert!
While we're on the subject- am I right in assuming the same observations apply to the Tele bridge version- I think the L-48TL (?)- this is the same pickup in effect as the L-45SL?. I'm considering that and an L-45SN for a suitably routed tele. R |
