Almost done with my first USACG project. Then I bought a Web Special neck. Ooops, here we go again! I did not know this could be so addicting.

Cool pickguard. And stunning flame on that neck! Do all of USACG's web specials look like this?
You can say you to

Thanks. I'm so used to recessed Wolfgangs, that my pinky gets lost on flat tops, so the pickguard really is my finger rest. Tommy got me a thin piece of
ebony for it. I used a trim router bit to follow the pickup wells.
There are some steals to be had for sure on the web specials. You could see the flame real prominently even without finish on this neck, I could not pass it up. Tommy is a great guy to deal with, lots of ideas and help to get you what you want. |

A bound but arm cut Tele body - not sure I've seen that, looks great!
The pickguard is really nice, too. I've been planning to get some scraps from Tommy for some 3D control plates to cover a conventional Thinline Tele controls access hole. Yes, folks, a lot of the stuff coming down the Webspecials pike will have this character or that, and if bold tiger stripe is what you want, you will find it if you are patient. |

Thanks for all the kind compliments on my first endeavour! I will be sure to post photos of the completed project as well as the specs, in the appropriate
sticky.

Floyd's aren't my thing, but the rest of that guitar is a slam dunk! Did you finish it yourself? How?

Thanks! It's at the luthier's right now for final set-up and fret finishing.
W.D. Lockwood water based stain, Oxblood Red w/10% IPA. Two coats, sanded in between. I then burned the grain black with a heat gun. Birchwood Casey TruOil, 'bout 10-15 light coats, steel wool in between coats. Polished with 3M Finesse and Meguiars carnauba wax. |

Very clever idea on that pickguard. I like it.
I'm not sure what you meant by "burning the grain" with the heat gun.

Hahahaha! Hold a heat gun on it 'til it smokes..... I was going to use the MAPP torch, but I did not want to accidentally melt the binding. The coarse
grain areas were not receptive to the stain and stayed yellow, and the grain burned while the surrounding soaked and wet areas did not. The end result is that
the grain pattern is pronounced and dark. Unintentionally, the swamp ash also took on a "flame" pattern, no pun intended!
