Posts: 1 Tue, May 12, 2009 20:54:02	Tags : None Hello all, I'm going to be getting a new USA Custom neck (and body) and wanted to gauge your opinions on neck finishing. That is, is it necessary from the get go or can it be done later? I'm getting a plain vanilla maple on maple neck with jumbo stainless frets for whatever that's worth. Thanks for any info! orb........

Posts: 151 Wed, May 13, 2009 01:14:38	You've got to put something on the maple. If nothing else, to keep the filth from becoming embedded in the maple where it cannot be gotten out. A couple of quick applications of Minwax Tung Oil Finish is so much better than nothing. Give it a go.

After a few months of heavy use Maple gets kind of greyish - very unattractive. Mine got really ugly over the years... I'd put a nice woody-feeling satin finish on a Maple neck. That could be bought at a Home Depot or Lowes type place? I don't want it to look all vintage or nitro'd, but I want to protect it from minor wear n' tear. Thanks again! orb..........

Posts: 152 Wed, May 13, 2009 17:35:05	Wipe on a couple of coats of Minwax Tung Oil Finish. It'll seal the wood, give it a soft satin sheen. Very subtle. You just apply lightly but thoroughly with a cloth, wait 8 minutes then wipe it down and buff it with a clean cloth. Should be playable in a few days.

Check with Tommy about warranty. I think they won't honor the warranty if you don't put a finish on it. --Garrett--
