i personally think it will have the same effect on sound, but maybe i am wrong.
i also have a left over five way switch, is there a diagram that would offer some usefull extra's?

tele three way switch VS 2 mini switches |

bought a korina tele body that i want to use for the keystone tele deluxe set and i am wondering if there will be a difference if i would use 2 mini toggle
on/off switches in stead of the normal three way switch?

My tele used to be wired like this, and it's a great setup. The added position #4 is particularly good sounding with nice "quack".
Regarding the mini-switches and the 3 way, you will not gain anything by using two mini-switches with the Keystones. Actually, the 3-way is much more convenient. -hth |

Unless you use 3 way mini toggles. That 1/2 phase option looks like a great idea. Another would be to have an out of phase/series option a' la Brian May.
Although, I think he runs one pup set parallel/out of phase in series with another pup. A series option to the above wiring might give a really sweet lead
sound. I think you would just need to add one more switch to do it. Not sure how.

I'm using the Bill Lawrence 5 way setup with the "half pregnant" position #4 and it sounds very good. I think the value on the little cap
alongside the 5 way switch is a little too much, but I went down to .001 mf and that's too little. Plus the Radio shack tiny green film cap (fits so nice)
appears to be crapping out; I'm getting intermittent failure from it. Sounds great but I've got some kind of fault in there. I'm probably shorting
to ground actually, but I was so proud of the cloth I stuck on there.
Oh, I'm using non deluxe Keystones. I like the all exposed pole piece sound a lot.

I'm using two three-ways with a Q-Filter, but you could do a few different things with the second three-way. Thanks as usual to moggl for doing the diagram a while back.

With a DPTT mini switch (on-on-on) and a mini on-on switch (or on-off) you could hook up neck and bridge pickups in series in addition to the stock tele
positions. Mid position is of phase with series connection engaged.
By the way: Moggls diagrams are soo clean !! |

i think i go for the lawrence wiring concerning the diagram from moggle is see the placing of the q filter as a strange position but maybe i am wrong |

hopdybob wrote: It's just grounded to the Volume pot instead of the Tone. You could just as easily ground it and the cap to the back of the Tone pot. For a Tele control cavity, it works nicely to shove the Q-Filter underneath the Volume pot to make way for the output jack.

lgbclp wrote:You got me. I have 1 set of Keystones with the Deluxe chrome look cover, that I haven't installed in anything yet - so all I can say is I like what I have heard in the dozen or so sets of exposed pole piece Keystones. Alder, ash, maple cap mahogany, walnut, maple cap alder; I'm definitely a happy customer. :^) One of the aesthetic things about the exposed pole piece version is, you can use a Blackguard type pickguard and as long as you don't insist on adjusting the neck pickup real high when you body mount it, the neck pickup is somewhat invisable under low light conditions and allows the guitar to pass for an Esquire. I've wondered if daubing some shellac mixed with carbon black or India Ink on the Keystone neck pickup pole pieces could help complete the deception. This IMO makes way more sense than trying to entomb a neck pickup under the pickguard where it has no chance on Earth of working right. I've tried is effect on my T bodies with the deepest neck pockets to reduce as much as possible the extent to which the neck pickup must be way proud of the plane of the pickguard. If you think the shellac will ruin the pups, plees just let me have it. :^) Much obliged.
