I have a Washburn X50 pro with an SD 59 in the neck and an SD custom custom in the bridge. I like the guitar a lot, but can't stand the pickups. The
guitar sounds dark and mushy. So, I'm looking into Wilde pickups. I didn't think I would want the L500XL but reading about the Q filter makes me
think it may work. I play in a band now that plays classic rock, pop, some country, and some occasional heavy stuff. So, I need some versatility in my
pickups that will let me have a range of tones. My main guitar right now is an Ibanez SZ4020 with the stock designed by Duncan pickups that I actually liked
quite a bit. they are bright but thick enough, the bridge is higher output and the middle pickup selector position splits the pickups and gives me a great
chimey single coil tone.
Now, it sounds like with a set of L500's I can do that and more with the Q filter. I have a couple of questions, though. In the post about the Q filter, at http://guitarsbyfender.yuku.com/topic/2992?page=2 , using it as "Function A" the L filter says that would be fine for a neck pickup. However, it is described as "This is equal to taking turns off the pickup or making a sweet clean pickup out of a high power, overdrive pickup" and that pretty sounds like what I would want to do with the brigde pickup at times when I want to do some country or classic rock stuff. I suppose once I get the set I can try it both ways but wanted some opinions to see of anyone uses that configuration with their bridge pickup.
Now, my other question is since I only have one volume and one tone control on this guitar, the Q filter will affect both pickups in the same way (I am limited to one configuration for the Q filter). What is people's experience with this? Do you guys have better experience using the L filter or EQ filter with both? My tone control is a push-pull, so I do have additional options I suppose.
