Posts: 1 Tue, Jun 2, 2009 15:33:55	Tags : None first, SORRY THE ENGLISH !!!!!!!!! hello, new in the forum from buenos aires (argentine) and searching the ultimate sabbath tone. i know that tony plays ones some bill lawrence pickups (from his messageboard, but he "think the time they might have been a bit 'clean' sounding for me"). Tony always plays his jaydee "old boy" whith this pickups (bridge: jaydee high perfomance custom and neck: some kind of P90) also Tony plays in the 1980-90 era the Patrick Eggle SG custom made, with Twin hot rails by seymour duncan design for Tony. so my questions is, which Bill lawrence pickups had this tone?? i want in humbucker size for me SG please PD: i look some combo like L-610 (bridge) and L-609 (neck) or L-500L/L-500XL (bridge) and L-90 (neck), please recommend the combo that i searching. PD2: i know there is painful read my english, sorry AGAIN.

Posts: 798 Tue, Jun 2, 2009 21:28:18 Contributing Silver Member	Both combinations you mentioned will fit the bill. I am a huge Black Sabbath fan (hey, my name is Anthony and I am left-handed). I prefer the L-610L and the L-609N for my two humbuckerish set ups. Basically for Master of Reality, Paranoid, Volume 4 - go with L-610L and L-609N. There is a little bit of rawness to those tones that humbuckers just can't quite get. For Heaven and Hell, Mob Rules - go with L-500XL, L-500C. I think you would be happier with the L-610L and L-609N to play all styles of music. IMHO

Posts: 2 Tue, Jun 2, 2009 22:37:52	ok anthony, but which Inductances in the L-610L and L-609N? i think L-610 (6.4 Henries) and L-609 (3.6 Henries), you have The standard Gibson (G) combo for SG: a 4.8 Henry bridge (L) and a 3.6 Henry neck (N)??? thanks for the advice anthony left-handed, are you iommi??

Posts: 299 Wed, Jun 3, 2009 08:36:41 Bronze Member	Considering both examples shown use humbuckers, and the 609/610 won't get you a humbucker tone, I'd like to recommend two L-90s. They have a smooth attack like most humbuckers but provide remarkable clean tones with strong sensitivity to technique variation and dynamics. The L90s sound amazing through distortion. I remember a few here saying they're an outstanding choice for rock and earlier era metal. I certainly prefer them over any other pickups for these types of tones.

Posts: 799 Wed, Jun 3, 2009 14:59:01 Contributing Silver Member	Yes, I have the standard Gibson combo. I run my L-610L from my SG homebuilt or Iceman homebuilt straight to Carvin MTS3212 amp. I use a boss equalizer GE7 pedal. Plenty of gain. PM me and I can send you a soundclip.

Posts: 24 Mon, Jun 8, 2009 00:49:13	hey tony darrell wilde, welcome to the board! i wouldn't want to disagree with anyone on the subject, but i'd phone bill concerning the question. some hi-henry L-90s might do, but i have a set of L-465ers in a pretty low budget sg and these roar like hell (4.8 and 3.6 henry i think). bill discontinued them, because he said that the L-450s, now the L-600s can do that and much more. i'd really talk to him personally. all the best! Posts: 1860 Tue, Jun 9, 2009 21:40:52 Contrib. Gold Charter Member Wilde Tech	The L-465 was discontinued 4 or 5 years ago, I think. I agree with hands: A couple of L-90s would fit in nicely. I've got a pair of 4H neck and 8H bridge pickups wired to a PRS 5-way switch, and these pickups are simply brilliant. A match made in tone-heaven. Given my modest playing abilities, I can get a lot of different tones from this guitar...heavy metal, rough rock, fat quacky tele/strat like clean sounds...

Posts: 38 Sat, Jun 13, 2009 22:33:12	Hello, I'm a huge Black Sabbath fan and as a matter of fact I play a lot of Iommi's music, in particular the heaven and hell era. To me, the best Bill Lawrence pickup for the job is the L-90 8Henries with the 4.8 in the neck, I found its sound extremely similar to the qualities Iommi is known for, especially the cristalline cleans. They would work great on a mahogany guitar like my Flying V. I also have a guitar with the L-500 but to my ears the L-90s are closer to that concept of sound, since they are more definite.
