I don't know...Best Buy? Does that mean their Geek Squad will come to your residence and re- string your guitar for you (for a price). I mean many years
ago (in the US) we had guitars sold by Sears (back in the 50's & 60's), but I just cannot understand this deal? And, in the current state of the US
economy? Will Best Buy, due to its size, be able to undercut prices at the local music stores, those I always support over places like Musician's Friend?
Me, I'm not buying anything Gibson in the near future, but if I did, I'd still look to my neighborhood store vs. Best Buy.

This may be an extremely short term phenomenon, but in the first few days your local Best Buy puts those new guitars up there, you might be able to grab one
really nice guitar, something that would've been molested or already bought at the "worn in" stores like Ma and Pa, Guitar Center, Sam Ash.
If it really is about finding the needle in the haystack, why not be the first person into the pile? As far as lower prices, I don't know. Maybe after Christmas. Bubbanov |

Two things, FWIW:
1) I went over to the Best Buy in Tukwila, WA which was listed on the Gibson web page as a place where you could buy a DF just to see this for myself (I couldn't believe it, you see). This was about a month ago. They never heard of DF and told me they didn't sell guitars, Gibson or otherwise.... It did seem weird that BB, supposedly, would sell the DF. 2) That "Geek Squad" guy I saw last week in Silverdale, WA was actually an IT guy who works his "day job" at a high tech firm, choosing to work at BB to mix up his schedule a bit. Well, even though I cleaned my computer from the virus it got last week, I still had a residual effect of my computer NOT letting me log in under any account, nor in any mode. I knew what file I needed to replace and how to then deal with Regedit... BUT! I had no time, nor any inclination to go searching for that file in the cabs of my original disk. This "GeeK" guy was great in that he knew right were to get the files, he made the edits, and only charged me $30. It took him only 20 minutes, the time I had spent doing an errand elsewhere. Best Buy even has Taylor six string guitars - checked out a couple solid bodied ones. I don't know.
The rest of the stock is basically just sitting there, as it has since the store first created this music department. The are ALWAYS musically serious people you can hire to run this type of store in New Orleans. Too much talent and not enough pay in the shows. Meanwhile MF over the phone is the right place to buy a Gibson Melody Maker. $ 249 shipped to me. Mine's a nice one. |
