Posts: 1 Mon, Jun 29, 2009 18:04:07	Tags : l90, noise, crackling, loop, eclipse The other day i fit in two L90 humbuckers, which are godlike btw, into my esp eclipse, replacing two silly EMG's. I also installed trebble bleeding capacitators on the volume pots. Now i have a "crackling noise" loop, which isnt caused by my amp, but the guitar. When i touch the volume knobs(500k goldo), the noise goes away. Is that a grounding issue? I also soldered the bridge grounding wire to the back of the volume pot like shown in the diagram below. Treble bleed mods are generally not a great idea - they're too setup-specific, and without much benefit with Bill's pickups. They already provide a generous amount of high end. I would recommend getting rid of the mod. If you still have a problem afterwards, let us know!

Posts: 1886 Tue, Jun 30, 2009 10:21:47 Contrib. Gold Charter Member Wilde Tech	Hi 111111 and welcome! Sounds like you've got a "hizz" and not a "hum" related issue. A passive guitar circuit doesn't really "have room" for ground loops. This problem is not actually caused by the guitar and it's not really a grounding issue either, because the noise disappears when you touch guitar hardware. BLs have superb treble response and will pickup electric noise in the room other pickups do not sense. Check the shielding and make sure the pickup routs, control rout and wires are fully shielded, preferably with copper foil which is grounded. I take for granted that you've used BLs wiring color scheme and not SDs. You can do well to follow hands' advice and do away with the treble bleed circuit. If you still feel you need treble bypass, use a 330pF cap, not a 0,001microF which is way to big.

Posts: 2 Fri, Jul 3, 2009 06:21:00	Here we go. I removed the trebble mod - no change. There are no electronic sources interfering - checked that. I soldered the black and the blue wire on the back of the pots in the first place. Also insulated and combined red & green. The rest of the wiring i took from the SD diagram. I really suspect now that the guitar cavity is poorly shielded as fuzzy pointed out. Interesting to mention i didnt have any annoying noises when i soldered two OBL 900XL into my 200 dollar virgin, yet this 1k eclipse seems to be very poorly shielded. I shall try copper foil and let you guys know. Cheers everyone.

Anyway the guitar sounds way better w/o the treble mod, and L90's are the sexiest humbuckers ever! Thread closed, happy end i love you all

There used to be a lot more on the website if I recall, but can't find half them anymore, nor all the old posts from Bill on the forum. Kind of disappointing really.
