> "The tone reports on the L-200 IMO prove that it was a good decision to add it to the BL lineup. It seems, in some ways and for several players, to be complementary to the 280, which is a good thing. That said, it was to be expected that Bill has enough experience not to design a new pickup which competes directly with an existing and proven design.

"So, I have to admit, the tone reports of the 200 really make me want to try one out. I'd probably still favour the clear, even characteristic of the 280, but the 200 might highlight other aspects of tone."

If someone wants pure Strat tone, but noiseless, I recommend a set of 200S's.

If someone wants transparent pickups that lets their guitar and their playing shine through, I recommend a set of 280S's. For example. if you have spent a small fortune on a USACG S-type, you are likely to very much appreciate what the 280S offers.

Texas Blues tone is obviously catered to by the 298S's. And if you want what is commonly described as a blues bridge pup, the 298SL is obviously the way to go.

...If rock is your thing, then you might prefer the 290SL instead.

If you're unsure, like a significant number of folks that come here seeking advice, then I recommend the 298SL/200SM/280SN combo. IMO, any hassles adjusting the 280 are generally worth it.
