Beauty is in the ear of the beholder?

I set up my pickups as prescribed well sort of. I set my bridge L298 up per nocasters advice. It left me believing that the advice was meant for a different pickup because it didnt sound too good like that all bite and no warmth. Still, I valued the advice as a starting point, leaving the treble side at a nickel and running the bass side up gradually, settling at about three or four cents worth (sorry, couldnt resist). The L298 sounded great like this.

From there I adjusted the L200s in the other two spots. The neck L200 is pretty level and at a nickel from the fretted strings. The middle pickup, however, is quite high, nearly as high as it can go without the fretted string hitting it. Thank the Lord for Bills low string pull pickups, eh?

The results are immensely pleasing to my ear. I get great quack tones and each pickup individually balances and sounds great. This is the best setup Ive ever had.

Now my guitar is chambered and that does make a difference, so this may not work as well for you. But read nocasters advice again for all my years of playing, pickup height adjusting is something Ive been fairly ignorant of. What he says there about tuning it by ear is excellent and I will repeat this process on my other guitars as soon as I get the time.
