OTM:

about 40% ground away, 60% remaining. Thus a 0.046-inch daimeter string probably started out as a 0.077-0.076

From some diagrams I've seen since it appears to be not 40% of the finished string that is ground away, but 40% of the winding wire.

Hypothetical example: A .015 core wound with .015 - total diameter .45 .

Grinding away 40% of the total would leave you with a final diameter of .027, or only .006 of the winding wire left - less than half the original.

Grinding 40% of the winding only would leave the windings with a height of .009 for a total string diameter of .033. This seems more likely to me.

The pics I've seen seem to show the winding wire with a little more than half if it's original diameter intact.

Doctor, I have a constant ringing in my right ear.
