I'm also in the process of putting together a Bora Bora Blue Burst guitar....well a bass actually. In this case it's a 5 string J body from Tommy with flame maple over swamp ash.

Regarding the dyes, from my most recent email correspondence with Kabudokan:
"I didn't actually order the dyes. They are available locally (San Diego, CA area) form a wood shop. Anyway, I've always used the concentrated water-based dyes. I'm not even familiar with the fibre reactive dyes. I've always bought the dyes in little 1 oz. packets, and there's probably enough dye their for a dozen guitars. The key thing is not to lose too much in the experimenting phase. For the record, I used #5230 Lemon Yellow and #7885 Peacock Blue, but I'll bet the CanaryYellow would've worked fine."

Basically, right from the start, the Peacock Blue dye gets you real close to Andersons "Bora Bora Blue" or McInturff's "Surf Blue" (as well as his "Peacock"), but it needs a bit of yellow. I simply mixed up a batch of Peacock Blue dye and then, in small plastic cups, tried adding SMALL amounts of the Lemon Yellow until the color looked right. Too much yellow QUICKLY leads to a color that's too green. IIRC, there was probably only about 10% or less yellow in the final mix. For the burst portion (to get "BB Blue Burst" instead of simply "BB Blue") I used ReRanch Transparent Blue with Bill's bursting nozzle (available upon request when ordering).

The following link should take you to a couple sample pics of the J body after dying, sealing in with clear, and finally bursting. The body is still in need of all of its final clear coats, sanding and polishing.
