Way back when, my first professional guitar (and left handed for that matter) was a LH '75 SG Standard. I bought a Dimarzio SD later that year and replaced it with a Lawrence 90XL which just sound GREAT!!. Being young and dumb I ended up traded the SG and an Ibanez LH LP copy (had a L90XL in it too) on a LH Flying V copy in the mid 80's - oh the things we did when we had spandex and hairspray... :eek

Anyway I came across and purchased a '74 LH SG Standard that was identical to my "75 SG a few years ago in mint condition. I also bought a couple of L90XLs from ebay still sealed in the blue cardboard package right after I bought the SG grasping for old memories. FYI - both PUs were DOA.

I've had it parked since I bought it in 2000 (I play a '60 LH strat), until I pulled it out the other night. To my amazement I loved it, except for the squealing pickups when using high gain.

Obviously I'm in the market for replacement pickups - this is why I was asking about the L90XLs. I am looking for recomendations and Larwrence pickups are on my list. What I'm looking for is something similar to the original pickups (which I believe are Super Humbucking pickups maded by BL when he was with Gibson) with maybe a bit more output. There are so may choices from other manufacturers, its...just too many choices.

The music I currently play is classic rock from the '50s to current, but mostly '70s - '90s, plus some beefed up country and blues/rockin' blues/blues rock. With Gibsons I really like the tones of the Allman Brothers, ZZ Top, AC/DC, Warren Haynes, '70s and '80s freedom rock, but I like to play clean too - I go between using a Marshall 2204 MV, Fender TR/PR/Bassman, and a Rivera BM60 (Marshall/Vox/Fender like tones).

Any input would be appreciated. Thanks - Mark
