I would not recommend using a 3-way and/or VTT without Bass Filters. Straight VTT is VERY limited, and while adding a 3-way provides for soloing the neck or bridge pup, which IMO is of limited use, and removes the traditional pickup bleed, it does not offer any pup blend.

I'd suggest a 5-way or super switch to load tonal presets, like Bill's 5-way Tele diagram in this thread.

...But, you need to know what you want to preset, and that involves some research, such as understanding Roscoe Beck's scheme, and how it applies here, and then streamlining it onto a 5-way or super switch, with VTT (with or without Bass Filters on push-pull pots).

VBT is MUCH more straightforward. And, if youve routed for a 3-way switch, I still believe VBT on the mid position delivers more than VTT sans Bass Filters.
