The L-490 has been replaced with the L-609.

I would highly recommend the L-610L or L-609L for the bridge position. The L-610L is like a P-90 but clearer and better chord definition for the rhythms. I play hard rock to heavy metal and love this pick up. It will get you any sound you want, short of a strat single-coil.

In comparison, The L-609L will not nail the Missisippi Queen lead tone right out of the box like the L-610L, you have to play with the amplifier a bit. The L-609 has more high end and is a little more versatile. I flip a coin and buy one or the other for all of my new-builds.

If you want to play say, Black Sabbath, I just put the pre-amp on 8 with an L-610L instead of 6 with an L-500XL. The 609s/610s are just great, great rock pick ups. They sound good clean also in the bridge position.

The L-280 blend well with both L-90 and L610, but output wise it's a bit lower. Personally, I prefer it that way.
