I've been very happy with 10-46 on my Strats, Teles and Les Paul for the better part of the last decade. I did use 9-42 on my Strat for a while back in the early-mid '90s, but almost immediately dropped the 9s from my Les Paul. To me, 10s on a Paul feel a bit similar to 9s on a Tele (i.e. a bit easier to play - "slinky").

I suppose 9s on the Strat were OK (especially for Gilmour-Clapton type stuff), but the 10s were easy to get used to and, since they match the gauge on the Gibson, they highlight the inherent differences between Fender and Gibson scales/construction.

All in all, this is a long-winded way of agreeing with Nocaster:
10-46 on Strats, Teles and Gibsons,
9-42 on Strats if a slinky feel is desired. :)
