No, it's not the digitalness of the gear that's causing it. That's not what I'm saying. The devices happen to be digital and surely there's something different about their nature than the traditional amps. And they a, as I'm finding out from various companies.

I'm also not suggesting lifting grounds in or around the outlets. Of course that's dangerous. I'm talking about using DI units. I just tried Radial's Pro DI and JDI. Worked like a charm. These devices DO NOT lift electrical ground. They lift and divert the TRS/XLR cable ground and divert them neatly to a high quality internal and well-shielded transformer. They're passive devices and they're incredible. Ebtech also has Hum Eliminator, which is known to work very well, too.

I just spoke to Becky about this. It was a big shrug and a mutual agreement that electricity can do strange things. The research I've done suggests that this is getting all too common in newer buildings with strange grounding designs. I've spoken to our building engineer and he's confirmed that studio gear should be power conditioned and that tracing the problem is next to impossible in our building (you'd have to see it to understand why).

Nonetheless, problem solved.
