The L6-S wiring was designed around lower inductance pickups and lower value pots. If you want to replicate those results, you'd have to go that direction. Using caps for coloration also would work better with lower inductance models, not only because you would have to use smaller cap values and match to a particular (low capacitance) cable, but because higher inductance pickups have greater rolloff of the highend due to the increased inductive reactance at higher frequencies.

I would absolutely start with a Q-filter on the bridge position, either way, and probably try the pickups as drop in replacements with relatively conventional wiring before trying to figure out how to squeeze as much versatility out as possible.
