I understand that. I'd just like the option of passively boosting the low end if it's possible. If you aren't interested in that, you don't need to continue discussing it. My guess is a base plate may not work because the coil is too far from the bottom of the pickup. If there is a moderator bar in the pickup, and I suspect there is, a base plate would have to be fitted right under it around the poles, unless vertical side mounting would achieve the same thing. That would make the brass mounting bracket an option, but it's thicker than recommended. I'd like to know the answers to the question -- not whether it is deemed “necessary” or not.
