Interesting. I'd guess the magnetic field isn't as focused as with AlNiCo V, so it doesn't need anything to spread the field evenly above the coil? Anyway, it's good to know there is a chance of using a bass plate or mounting bracket if I want.

The stock AlNiCo pickups in my ST-625 seem to have ~3dB lower loudness compared to the MC-F's in my SX Hawk, and they are set high enough to cause some harmonic modulations. They are standard Fender spec ~5.8k Rdc/2H PL. I can get a pretty decent sound from them, but I gotta say I think those Fender design pickups kinda' suck compared to the MC-F's. The inefficiency isn't a big deal. The weaker fundamental strength is actually pretty cool for certain sounds, but the “Stratitus” is just deal breaker. I can't get the harmonic balance I like in the neck without noticeable modulations below the 12th fret on the low E, just as I recall with my 65' Strat pickups back in the 70's. Hendrix apparently didn't like Strats as much as it would seem – eventually favoring his Flying V.
