what does the 0.5 Henry L600 sound like? |

The description says it's "the pickup for connoisseurs", that's quite intriguing. At only half a Henry inductance, it must be very very low
output, right? Would it only be suitable for certain guitars, like big resonant hollowbodies with fat strings? I assume it would have a very wide frequency
response; would it be kind of hifi-sounding? I'm not sure there's anything else on the market with such a low output.
Has anyone used this model? |

Hi Louisa, and welcome!
I've not used the 0.5 H model of the L600, but I've got an old (well, 8 or 9 years..) DXR which was the 1.0 H version of a covered L450. I think it's the closest you can get to the 0.5H. The output of the DXR is bigger than one might think, but using it for heavy, fuzz-saturated sounds would be casting ones pearls before swines. Dynamics and tonal brilliance would be totally lost. It's got a bell like high end response, but it's also got the sweet attack of a humbucker. Bass response is very clean and distinct. It's a perfect fit for creating clean, articulate jazz runs with a big jazz box (which is more than you can say about me, to say the least  ), but it's also brilliant in my Lowden acoustic.

The closest bucker I have is the L600N1.6 in my tele. It sounds just as Fuzzy described. Through a good solid state amp, it produces a very rich frequency
response with a deep and solid bass that pleasantly surprised me when I first tried it.
I notice that the low inductance L600s are often recommended for jazz, but I think that depends on the type of jazz you play. A lot of jazz I listen to has more mid-dominated voicings and I wouldn't get these pickups for that type of jazz tone. However for a big, round, almost acoustic tone with great "dynamics and tonal brilliance", these low inductance L600s are perfect. Btw, I use mine with flatwounds on the tele and the heavier flatwound strings mellow the tone nicely. I'm sure the pickup sounds amazing in Fuzzy's big jazz box. |

what about one of them in a gibson 175 a little overdiriven? i m thinking of having a change and i though about this l 600 0.5... but inormally play that
guitar with a hair of rat distortion and a hair of ts 808 overdrive... is it worth or whould i look for something else?

Many people prefer distortion out of hotter pickups because they sound warmer and miss out some bass and treble frequencies which can make distortion sound
"bad".
On the other hand, if you like the kind of distortion you get out of full range pickups (and many people do), by all means go for it
