Hello,
Some of you may remember my threads about pickups for my TSS guitar. I initially chose L-280SN, L-280SM and L-290TL.
I now put in the following set: L-200SN, L-200SM and L-298TL. Here are my views:
1. L-200 vs. L-280: as others have mentioned the L-200 has more high midrange than the L-280 whereas the L-280 is more linear. I hear this as the L-200 being fatter on single notes, especially with the amp set clean. The L-280 has a clearer sound on chords. With an overdriven setting, the differences are not as pronounced.
2. L-290TL vs. L-298TL: I must say I was a bit confused since the descriptions as to which pickup was closer to a true telecaster tone were not consistent. In this particular guitar the L-298TL is fatter sounding, with a lot more midrange, a lot more P90-like and further away from the tele tone than the L-290TL. It sounds really thick for leads but I am a bit concerned for the clean tones. Maybe the Q-filter will help. I had it in the guitar with the first pickup set but replaced it with a conventional tone control.
I will play the guitar as is on the next gig but I guess I will ultimately settle for L-200SN, L-200SM and L-290TL.
Cheers Stephan
