Need Help With neck

Posts: 1 Sun, Nov 8, 2009 19:04:28	Tags : neck, stainless, warmoth, gloss, satin, wood, steel, chambered I have long been planning on building a guitar from my own specs. I ordered a chambered mahogany body(with a quilt maple top) from warmoth and plan to order my neck from USACG because everyone on the net says they do a better job with fretting and such. I need some help on wood though. Ive been over forum and forum. I am going to go with SS frets despite all the controversy. I am looking for about medium-jumbo frets, should i go with 6105SS or 6150SS fret sizes? And i am planning to go with an ebony fret board. Would you recommend a mahogany neck or something else? I don't want anything too bright, just medium. I like the feel of satin finish but will it contrast with the gloss finish of the mahogany guitar? How will the neck fit with the warmoth pocket? also you should know the guitar has a recessed tune o matic bridge. Please get back to me on your opinions and suggestions. Thank you very very much!

Posts: 1320 Mon, Nov 9, 2009 00:59:14 Contributing Palladium Member	6105 is the Fender style, high and narrow. 6150 is the PRS style, high and wide. It just depends on what you prefer. If you're set on an ebony board, I'd be likely to go with a mahogany neck as ebony is very bright. Otherwise, I'd do a maple neck with maple or pau ferro board. It also depends on the pickups and what overall sound you're after. Satin finished necks look really good, even with a gloss body. If you want, you can have them gloss the front of the headstock. Neck should fit alright. They're both machined to the same measurements, but a little variation is always possible. --Garrett--

Posts: 2 Tue, Nov 10, 2009 03:36:00	well you see i read that the chambered mahogany would be a warm tone. i definitely want ebony for the increased sustain. can i ask for quarter swan mahogany from usacg? also i think im going to go with the 6150, is there going to be an overwhelming amount of fret? im going with the satin finish/gloss peghead. would it be a good idea to have them make the neck heel a little big..i can always sand it down. im all about natural sustain so i want a nice nice fit.
