I took a Steinberger Spirit and cut it up. Added a hollow section, and some of Bill's pickups. I call it my Kleinberger. The reason it sounds so good is because of Bill. The original "designed by EMG" pickups were horrible. This is now my main rig. Thanks Bill and Becky. You guys are really great... :) I can't wait to play the new series coming soon!

Hi everybody,
Here's my first Gibson guitar that I bout in '91 or '92 - I don't remember exactly ;-) It is a '88 Gibson SG 90 Double, with a Steinberger KBX locking tremolo. It used to be "Alpine White" - now it's something like "dirty yellowish" ;-) Right after I got it, I changed the original Gibson HBL for an OBL L-500R in bridge position that stayed there until last week when I put in a new Bill Lawrence L-500L. I changed it together with neck position: Originally an OBL L-450L - I never liked it and I never used it. So now there is an L-280 on the neck (like in three others of my SG's ;-)) that I will use a lot! The neck was brocken three times, but I had it repaired fine - so it still plays and is a beloved guitar ;-) Have fun with the pics: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Best wishes, Vito. |

Hi Folks,
I assembled this guitar from Schecter (Tom Anderson era) parts around 1981. I honestly can't remember the specific models of the pickups. But I know they are from Bill Lawrence. If anyone cares to enlighten me I'd love to hear from them. Gene www.geocities.com/tonebucket/schecter.html |

I can't seem to figure out how to post a picture here. But the link in my previous post will show the guitar.

Hi Tonebucket,
when writing the post, you can see on the left side the options "insert". Click on "image", insert the url of the pic and click "ok". That's all. Then it might look like this: Best wishes, Vito. |

Of course, one needs to use the pic's URL, rather than the page in which the pic is embedded:

Epiphone Spotlight (c. 1988).
Mahogany neck-through with maple top, Steinberger KB locking trem (I pretty much keep it locked). She sounded good with stock EMG Selects, so I wasn't prepared for the amazing improvement in her after I installed the L-500R and L-500XL. She was wired for coil-tapping (push-pull pot) so I installed the L500s with coil tap option. Unlike the Selects, the L-500R sounds wonderfully Fenderish when tapped (even in this mahogany beast!) and I also like the rough immediacy of the XL when tapped. Surprisingly, I tend to play with the pups coil-tapped about 50% of the time. Of course, in HB mode, they are just the best humbuckers that I have ever heard. Am waiting on delivery of a Q-filter, which should make this guitar even more versatile. ![]() ![]() ![]() This guitar (Maryanne) has the nicest neck I've played, sustains beautifully, and is vibrant and responsive. Amazing value, even though she needed a new truss rod. I couldn't straighten the neck out to get the action right with the original feeble truss rod |

ESP LTD Axxion with Bill Lawrence L-500XL in the bridge, and an L-500R in the neck. Neck and bridge Volume pots, and Q-Tone. Guitar looks all metal, but does everything and does so very well.

This is the "Strat" that I built for my son Douglas as a present for his nineteenth birthday, and as a "Welcome Home" after he spent six months in India teacing English asa volunteer in a Tibetan exile community. Most of he guitar's components came from Warmoth, who are superb people to do business with. The pickups are from Bill, a 280 and 450 combination, with a Q-Filter on the 450. The guitar looks good, plays well, and sounds great. Douggie and I are really pleased witgh it, and I would really like to have another go a building a Warmoth - Bill Lawrence guitar. I'm sketching out plans for a Custom Tele! |

Steinberger Tremolo | #16
|
Hello Vito,
I recently purchased a guitar from Ebay that has the same type trem system as your beautiful SG. When it arrived I found that the pivot pins on the base unit of the trem(the part attached to the body) were damaged and bent forward. Anyhoo, I was wondering if you ever had any problems with yours and if you know of a parts source. Initial searches on the web are pretty slim pickin's so I thought maybe you had some info. Thanks Mike |

Re: Steinberger Tremolo | #17

Hi Mike,
I realise that this is not really appropriate to this thread but... I've also got one of those Steinberger KB tremolos on my Epiphone Spotlight (further up on this thread). If you want info on these, search the Steinbergerworld forum. Leaning pivot pins is a common problem and I don't think I've ever read about available replacements. One option is to take your chances and buy a 2nd hand trem (there is one on ebay at the moment - 7381775636). Although my pivot pins are still good, I have thought that it might be a good idea to somehow shim/support them before they start to lean. However, I've decided that I don't really need the trem working on the Spotlight (I've got a Steinberger with vastly superior T-trem when I need a trem). I hope that helps! Marc |

Hey mike,
sorry, I just saw your question - and this question is a good question! I must say, I've never seen a guitar with this tremolo with the pivots in working order. Sad but true. I am lucky, because my luthier is also a mechanic and made new pivots for me that are longer and reach through the bottom of the the trem. It was quite complcated, but he did a great job - you know I got 4 guitars with this trem ;-) Best wishes, Vito. |

I was going to buy the Trem unit on Ebay but I was a bit hinky after getting burned for the guitar so I asked the seller to send me more photos. He sent them to me and the pins on that one are completely gone.
I guess I will need to get someone to make up a new pin set up. Vito How much did it cost to get a new pin set up made? If your guy is interested maybe I could send him mine and he could do what he did to yours. Thanks again. Mike |
