There is some confusion about the L-500L and the L-500XL on Nuno's and Dimebag's guitars. At the beginning, I only made two versions of the L-500 which we called R and L. The R had 4.8 Henry and the L had 9.6 Henry.

In 1981, Ronnie Montrose asked me if I could make him a cleaner version of the L and the R. The result was that now I had four different versions of the L-500 -- 3.2 Henry, 4.8 Henry, 6.9 Henry and 9.6 Henry. I had to renmae the pickups and called the set with the lower inductance L-510R with 3.2 Henry and L-510L with 6.9 Henry. Now the consumers got confused and assumed that the L-510 was a totally different pickup.

By the end of 1981, I renamed them again and:

the L-500L became the L-500XL with 9.6 Henry
the L-510L became the L-500L with 6.9 Henry
the L-500R no change with 4.8 Henry

In 1994, I brought back the L-510R which became the L-500C.

Nuno and Dime assumed that they were using an L, but they were really using what is called today a 9.6 Henry L-500XL.
