I've already got a pickguard cut for a TELE-NECK-SIZE middle pickup, no screw holes, courtesy of Warmoth. While I love the sound of my current 280TN/290TL set, I used to have a 280S set in a Strat & found the 2 & 4 positions were excessively muddy compared to the single-pup sound, even w/500k pots.
I don't want the same mud problem in this Tele, so before I get out the router I'm just wondering if anybody else has used a Tele pup in the middle before as opposed to a Strat a la the Nashville Tele, which I'm not real crazy about?
I notice the 280 Tele neck is brighter & clearer than the 280 Strat neck - is this because the Tele pup is smaller, or is it because of the woods - ash/maple vs alder/rosewood?
