Well I got them a while ago, they sat lonely in my junk room for a few months (or "music" room if you will). I had a problem with my axe, so it had to get some attention anyway. It's a mahogany Warmoth Musiclander body with Koa top and USACG rosewood/maple neck. I had Lace Hot Golds in there which sound quite excellent. Previously, Van Zandt Blues that did not work in this axe to my surprise (pretty much the perfect strat pups under normal conditions). I wired the Lawrence set in and strung it up (and I'm always glad when there are no problems after so much work). I plugged in for just a few minutes but immediately heard everything that people were saying about each pickup:
The 280 at the neck sounds beautiful, not 100% single, has a slight blend of smooth humbucker in there.
The 200 in the middle really does sound more traditional than the other two, a perfect strat single coil tone to my ears.
The 298 is interesting, I need to spend more time with one.
The N+M doesn't quack really, as some have complained, but thankfully, the M+B DOES quack! This is the position I reach for when I want quack anyway.
I also noticed how height adjustment makes a huge difference, more than other pickups! Then the pole spacing is spot on for each position, kind of cool if you ask me.
So I know I didn't spend much time on them, and I did not crack out my effects but it was so neat to hear all the things that reviewers have been saying about these pickups! More to come later, and there's still a set of L500's that need to go into their axe too (not finished yet).
