Posts: 111 Mon, Sep 18, 2006 21:37:14	Tags : None Well - I took the plunge and bought one of the limited run 7 String L500Ls. While the pickup housing itself is smaller than the routing in the guitar I was able to mount it in my lefty Schecter 7 String without too many problems. Boy these BL pickups are thick! I'm going to have to route out the pickup cavity some more to get it to sit farther from the strings... for now I'm just dialing the volume knob back a tab... The following clip is an original riff - recording chain was as follows: Schecter 7 with L500L -> Voodoo Lab Tube Preamp -> M-Audio JamLab input Recorded using Sonar 4. Cabinet sound is simulated using the excellent Voxengo Impulse Plugin. Impulse is of a open back Celestion G12H recorded with a AKG C4000b Edge mic'ed To me, it totally blows away the EVO7 it replaced. www.mediamax.com/gwertman...ecter7.m4a

Posts: 111 Wed, Sep 20, 2006 12:22:54	I'll take that as a tone compliment! That preamp is really the most indispensable piece of gear I've ever owned. Picked it up for 375 on evilBay. It goes for 799 brand new. This pickup also does a beautiful clean as we all know. A clean clip will follow, plus pictures of how it looks in a 'normal' 7 string route. -Gary

Posts: 111 Wed, Sep 20, 2006 14:51:44	Hi Eric, It's an ALAC m4a (apple lossless) compressed mp3 - so you'll need iTunes or WinAmp with ALAC support. To get WinAmp 5 to play back this file I had to copy a file called alac.w5s into the C $:\$ Program Files\Winamp\System folder. www.sawgweb.com/sawgstuff...5/alac.zip Yes it's a chafe - I didn't realize I was creating problems by using iTunes to encode the wav file. My bad!

Posts: 2 Mon, Oct 2, 2006 20:34:44	Sorry it took so long to reply, Uncle Sam has had me pretty busy lately. That was some thick meaty tone you got there!!! I get my Les Paul back today with my new XL/R pups installed. My tech said in his 20+ years he's never heard a pickup with "no" hum at all. He thought the amp was off!!! I'll post some pics as soon as I can, and a sound clip when I get my guitar port. I want to give a great big pat on the back to Nocaster for all your hard work on the forum. It was all the information and happy customers here that helped me make my decision to go with Bill and Becky, that and their great customer service!!! So my hats off to you Nocaster. Thanks, and keep up the good work!!!

Posts: 111 Mon, Oct 2, 2006 20:50:18	You have a Les Paul 7 string????? Oh, thank you for the compliment on the tone. I just took the plunge and bought a Peavey JSX so I'm in tone hog heaven! The mp4 was my voodoo lab rackmount tube preamp which I'll be selling on evilBay (along with my Mesa 20/20 Stereo rackmount EL84 power amp) to recoupe the cost of the JSX. Bill and Becky are the best! I only need one more L500L and then all 4 of my gtrs will be blessed with super fantastic tone. But as for hum, mine still do - it's probably my poor soldering skills... -g

The ceramic L-500's were almost 100% humbucking, while the new alnico versions are probably 98-99%, which is still better than any other passive offering.
