I'm in and liking it so far. It's a nice diversion from the FDP and just may become my major diversion. Thanks for all your efforts.

I like it fine, always enjoy news about gear. Have been visiting a couple of times a week.
As a multi instrument person I like info about all sorts of stuff, used all different ways. The info base is good. Managed to date my son's squir and find where it was made. |

This could be the start of something great. I'm very impressed with the depth to which your developed this forum. There is an overwelming amount of informational directive here! I will stop by from time to time.
I wish you the best of luck. Dave |

Thanks Dave!
> "I'm very impressed with the depth to which your developed this forum. There is an overwelming amount of informational directive here!" I'm hoping to slowly build this side of things as time permits over the coming months. From my side, I'm going to try and address the need for information about Squier guitars - especially the early MIJ's. And as posts build across all "forums", I will move interesting/useful threads to a holding area for editing and then posting to the FIB repository. IMO this will be much more useful than archiving everything. I'm interested in developing an integrated forum and information-base, which would set this resource apart from the rest. |

This is a very large and time consuming project that you have undertaken. It is refreshing to see mature, intelligent discussion on the most versitile guitar ever made. At least , Thats my opinion. Thanks nocaster!

Yes, Fender Info Base, looks like it will last and help many Musicians and Fender fans. I enjoy reading what people have to say about gear and tech stuff. At times I will help with a post or two. Wish you luck Nocaster.

I'm really enjoying the 'board, nocaster. I'm finding myself coming here immediately after I log on to the 'net.
Maybe I'll start a "Reverend Congregation" Franchise! BTW, if you get the Rev forum up, I intend to be a MAJOR player there. Anything to spread the word. |

FWIW - I've been admin for about 4 years, firstly my own small group of friends at the Hive and am now with a closed forum at The Whammy Bar. We started on eesite, just like the fdp did (yes, I was there), but moved to ezboards maily for the extra functionality.
IMO this system does the job admirably. The only real costs involve keeping the ads at bay. If you don't appreciate that investment by the founders of this forum, take a look at my site which does not have any ad suppression. (mind you, pop up killer does wonders) : pub30.ezboard.com/brogs This site is purely a storage area for easy songs/lyrics etc and nothing whatever to do with FIB/FDP - type boards - use it if you want. From my experience with this type of forum board, I can say that it is far from easy to satisfy everyone. I think nocaster et al are on a good track by limiting the areas where we can post, using an information dissemination methodology instead of a free-for-all. Also, although this is only my second visit, I have already had a very nice offer of solid help in providing flute solos for my music page (thank you Damocles - you're a gentleman). You see, there is always more to a forum such as this than can be discerned by surface examination. Fora which are non-judgemental (which I think is one of the aims of the FIB) are more informational in intent will survive while others fall over, beacuse tensions do not wreck the place. I think this site will do fine and wish you all the best. I will try to do my part by posting as & when I have anything to say (doesn't happen very often - LOL) Roger

Thanks Dr Rog! Yes, information is the key here. Now this place seems to be starting to settle down into its own rhythm, I'm hoping to start adding to the repository and holding bay.

I like it a lot. To be honest I do not visit the FDP anymore. I find the F.I.B. much more informative and "mature". I attend F.I.B. in every free minute I have at work.
I like it and again - Thanks Nigel. |

I only ever visit the Squier forum at the FDP anyway, and increasingly less these days. There is almost no participation from Fender there anymore, and increasingly posts which do nothing but bash Squier are not being removed.
Thanks Nigel for producing an informative and non-biased site. I hate to imagine how long it's taken you! |

Thanks for your support elfury. Yes, it took a concentrated full-time++ effort over several weeks, and a little bit of money. The opportunity cost was several thousand dollars. And the long hours continued well after opening. However, things seem to be settling down. Only time will tell if it's all been worth it. I certainly hope so.

The F.I.B. is growing nicely with strong supporters and a solid foundation, nocaster. I'm so pleased to see the progress you've made happen here! I continue to spread the word to our friends, and I hope everyone else remembers to invite their friends too. The more the merrier!
Is it still your goal to sign up 1000 members? If so, I think it's a real possibility. Is 12 months unrealistic to think we can achieve this number? Becky |

Re: What do you think of the F.I.B.? | #34

Thanks Becky!
Yes, a minimum of 1000 members is still the target. I don't think 12 months is unrealistic, and would hope we're not far off. The Dudepit is still our model, but it has a solid commercial foundation, which I have yet to, and unfortunately possibly will never, achieve. I still intend to send out a reminder to members sometime soon, because many signed up early when little was happening, and I don't think they visit much. I'm now planning on doing this at the 5,000 posts mark, which will have seen us pass 100,000 hits and 300 members. This should spark more activity and result in a faster increase in membership. |

So far, so good! | #35 | ||
|
I like the FIB so far, but I still check out the FDP regularly as well. A positive of the FIB to me is the fairly specific nature of the USACG and BL sections - more specific (and applicable for me) than a "Pup Tent" or "Guitar Mod" section. A negative of the FIB is the overtly negative attitude of many posters and Nocaster to other products (Warmoth, Kinman, etc.) and sites (FDP).
I enjoy this site, but don't see the need to abandon or insult other sites. If it's about guitars (especially a quality, American made product like Fender), I'm interested. I'm pretty much a Bill Lawrence pickup fanatic, but I've never felt the need to make negative posts about his Down Under competitor. Same goes for USACG vs. "The Turtle". Before I found out about Tommy and USACG, I was happy with the Turtle. I'm just happier now. |

Re: So far, so good! | #36 | ||

In respect of Kinman:
My *personal* beef is with Chris Kinman, not his products! My stance on the FIB with regard to pickup comparisons is based on my not wanting the FDP's The 'Pup' Tent type wars here. And "The 'Pup' Tent wars" always seem to involve Kinman and or his supporters. This is why I'm especially down on Kinman, especially when people post in the USA Custom-Gate and the Wilde-Gate. If you want to talk about Kinman products that's fine, but please do it in the Catch-Gate. And keep discussion to the products, not the man. And don't seek comparisons, which have *proved* completely pointless, but I know this is very hard, so their is some latitude. This might seem hard or overly anti or too many rules, but I don't see any other way of avoiding the likes of the "Kinman wars" here. In respect of Warmoth: I personally have no beef with Warmoth. I just find USACG offers (me) much better customer service. And, USACG is *much* more flexible, and doesn't have the up-charges. I personally think the use of the term "Turtle" has unnecessary negative connotations in the context of the USA Custom-Gate, which is why I personally don't use the term. If you want to talk Warmoth on the FIB that's perfectly fine, just don't start any wars. To those who want to talk about their Warmoth or other non-USACG projects, please do so! You can discuss Warmoth projects in the Tele-Gate, the Strat-Gate, and the Electri-Gate, whichever is most appropriate! |

Re: What do you think of the F.I.B.? | #37

hmm.... eight months since anyone has ventured here. Well, I'm a newbie (couplea weeks) so here's my 2cents.
While not without the occasional shortcoming, EZBoard is one of the best such services I've ever used. Perhaps any basic non-paying members who have complaints should get a refund. F.I.B. is outstanding. nocaster: Kudos for the maturity, info, and patience. I've been a guitar freak for over 30 years - often to the extent of having no other "life", but the work that nocaster does is exponentially more than I would ever be willing to do for the love of the instrument and its advancement. May nocaster be knighted (or sainted, or something really good) for the work he does here. As of yet I'm still exploring F.I.B. as a resource - I'm taking info, knowledge, advice. I don't feel as though I have yet been in a position to give same. I assume (hopefully) at some time I may be able to make that kind of contribution. In the meantime I've made a modest financial contribution which I expect to repeat periodically. This is the good stuff. Nigel, most sincerely...thanks, man. Too many guitars?? HAHA! HAHAHA!!

I lurk at a lot of boards because it enables me to get valuable information and advice. Up to this point I have been reluctant to post, simply because others who're posting have been more knowledgeable than I. I only found this board today thru a link from another, and I believe it is one of the better boards I have visited. I like the attitudes here... and I think I'm fortunate to be able to visit this board and participate in discussions here. Hopefully, I'll be able to contribute to this community, as well as benefit from it.
