Some of you appear to have received an email from me with a virus attached. I can assure you that such email did NOT originate from me. 1) I have never "signed" an email "fib". 2) I have not "signed" or used ( as an OUTGOING "signature" ) "fib@nocaster.com" for over a month, since we changed the provider of our domain services. 3) By looking at the "properties" of one of these emails, they appear to originate from an AOL account (and do NOT go through any of the mail servers that should originate in New Zealand, and then through the domain services provider in the US). 4) I have never had anything whatsoever to do with AOL. 5) My computer is protected by antivirus software. This appears yet another phase in the ongoing "terror" campaign against myself.

Posts: 15 Sat, May 4, 2002 00:41:23	I don't know if this will make you feel better or not but the same thing happen to me about two weeks ago. I got a real nasty e-mail from some guy complaining that I just sent him a virus. After much research I discovered that there are very bad people who know how to take anybody's e-mail address, attach a virus and then send it to anybody they wish. Isn't this comforting to know? The major e-mail players are trying to figure out how to stop it. Right now all they can do is verify that you did not send the virus. Unfortunately, not everyone would know that. One thing I did learn, these virus morons get your e-mail address when people forward e-mail and don't clean up the address areas. Forward an e-mail enough times and there can be hundreds of e-mail addresses. Spammer love this to! Eph 2:10 Bill

Posts: 19039 Sun, Jun 2, 2002 08:00:45 The Big FIBer	BEWAREHOAX EMAIL It has come to my attention that at least one valued FIBer has been sent a HOAX EMAIL requesting he remove all of his posts from the F.I.B.! If I want to remove posts, I can! If I wanted to stop anyone posting, I can! I can only ever foresee asking someone to modify a post to comply with the posting guidelines. So, please contact me for confirmation of such "unusual" requests. Unfortunately the FIBer that brought this to my attention had already complied with the HOAX REQUEST, which has resulted in the destruction of several important threads and of the flow of many more.

The headers don't specifically prove that it didn't come from my system, but it's highly improbably that a Win32 virus that propogates via Outlook Express would be sent from my Netscape system under Linux. Kinda sounds like website "sniper" meets website "virus sender", ie: somebody taking disguised 'pot shots' at another using someone else's identity.

These messages have a forged From: line and will have an attatchment. Only Win 95 and newer is affected, so beware of attatchments and make sure AV software is up to date.
