Many forum hosts openly state that their forum is their home, and that it's not a democracy. I have never stated such, because I disagree with the concepts completely.

While this isn't a democracy, it is consultative and participatory.

While this isn't my home, it is my club, and all rights that club owners reserve to themselves are reserved to me, and all rights vested in club managers are vested in the mods and admins.

If I deem you've had enough to drink, I can refuse to serve you, and even ask you to leave. If you are involved in something that is deemed to be troublesome, and might escalate, you must either desist or leave. This is called "cooling". If you are causing a disturbance or fighting, you will be asking to leave. This is called "bouncing". If you do any of these on a regular basis, or to a certain level, you may be banned either temporarily or permanently. If you are asked to stop smoking in a smokefree area, unless you desist you must leave. If you smoke cigars, when there's a no-cigar policy, unless you desist you must leave.

All of the above are normal in any club or on any moderated forum.

Arguing with a mod should be thought upon exactly the same way as arguing with a club owner/manager/cooler/bouncer. Slamming a mod is considered exactly the same as getting aggressive or physical.

Just as in a club, the staff might get it wrong sometimes, or be overly hasty, but if they are experienced and dutiful, they will have the best interests of the club and its patrons at heart, and will generally get things right.

Sometimes we give a lot of latitude, and sometimes we cut the latitude short, or decide not to extend any. It's simply a judgement call, and depends on several factors. I don't suggest that we always get it right, but I believe that we usually do.

If it's your first time in a particular club and another patron is apparently dealt with rather harshly, it's natural to feel uneasy. Sometimes you might think about stepping in against this apparent injustice. However, you are unaware of the trouble caused by this patron in the past.

If it's your first time in a particular club and you are dealt with unfairly, it's natural to feel anger. However, if its a club that specialises in serving a certain section of the community, to which you dont appear to belong, and in fact you appear to belong to a section of the community that is hostile to the clubs usual patrons, or appear to belong to a group that has previously caused trouble, your appearance unfortunately results in potential disservice.

If the club makes its own beer, and you repeatedly go on about a competing microbrewery, dont be surprised if the staff suggests you might be better off at the other place. If such discussion becomes commonplace at such an establishment, it wouldnt be surprising even though it may be your first time there if your request for something similar to what another place serves is less than welcomed. If theres animosity between two or more establishments, you should get the picture. And, if you are aware, or clearly should be aware of the animosity, and you obstinately persist with your points of reference, then you shouldnt be surprised by a curt response.

If the club has a non-smoking policy, you have to abide by that policy, no matter how outraged you might be, and even if it is the only club in the world with such a policy. Why the club has such a policy is its business. I guess their target patronage is non-smokers. If youre a smoker, there are plenty of other welcoming places.

There may also be dress policies, accompaniment policies, etc, etc, and all are the right and discretion of the management. If you dont like them, the club isnt for you, and you dont go there.

If you dont like the owner, the manager, the cooler, the bouncer, the barperson, server, etc, thats your problem, and no one is forcing you to go anywhere or do anything you dont want to.

The F.I.B. is my club. It is unusual in that there is that non-smoking policy, which no other club has.

Theres smooth jazz playing in the main bar, and I sometimes sub for one of the guys in the band, even though it might make things less smooth.

Ansells beer (Fender info and discussion) is on tap in the main bar, and theres also draft Tetleys beer (Gibson), and some bottled beers (other brands) available.

The Wilde-Gate is a club within a club.

It uniquely serves its own range of boutique beers (BL pups), brewed and served by Bill and Becky Lawrence. In the Wilde-Gate there are no other beers available, and its considered rather rude to sneak in your bottle of Budweiser. Dont be surprised if you take a seat at the bar with Budweiser in hand, rather than more discreetly at one of the tables, and youre asked to stop drinking or leave. If youre at one of the tables, we noticed you, but because youre not flaunting it in our face, we turn a blind eye, and hope you realise the error of your ways.

The USA Custom-Gate is similarly a club within a club.

If you take exception to my staff or me, dont be surprised if youre shown the door. If you give them or me a bloody nose, expect to be escorted to the door. If you pull a gun or a knife, dont complain if they are used against you.

Yeah, the rules are simple, and if you dont like them, there are plenty of other places. Similarly, if you dont like the beer we serve or the temperature at which we serve it, there are plenty of places.

I dont like the rules or the beer at several forums, and I dont participate, even though I am able to do so!

I know how other places are run, and if you think this place is oppressive, you need to get out more!
