Oh, Jonas! I've been doing it relentlessly for five years and I can tell you haven't taken much notice.

I do that sometimes, and sometimes even get a few newsy items from other forums. HOWEVER, I'm NOT expecting anyone to do that!! You can if you'd like, but it's not what I'm asking.

Quite simply, there's a news feed at Harmony-Central.com . Links to the articles stay on the front page for 2-3 days (usually), and then get moved to Past news items. Alternatively, there are acoustic, electric, bass, and effects sections of the site, but I personally think that's more hassle than sifting through the gear types that aren't of particular interest to us. But, you can do whatever suits you.

I guess if you really wanted to do a good job, you could check the Fender and Squier front pages once during the month, as well as the Fender news page.

All I'm asking is for each person to post the potentially interesting/important guitar and bass news items from H-C into threads, as I have been doing for the past five years.

GEAR news is all I'm asking for, but again, if there's other potentially interesting news that you want to post, go for it.

A pretty thankless task, as the threads often don't even get a single response, but it's got to be done.

Join the club! I clearly don't know what's of interest to others. And I'm sure not personally interested in everything I post about!

These days, all I do for recording is to post anything I find interesting while visiting H-C for the guitar and bass news. BUT, I'm not asking anyone else to do this. Again, you can if you'd like, but it's not expected.

As long as you can post all the relevant news items at least once a week, for one month, that's the minimum I ask.

Sometimes there's a lot of news, especially in January/February and also July/August, but often there's not much. Outside of the two known busy periods, it's pot luck.

Musikmesse is at the end of March or early April, and AES is early October. Neither of these two usually generates much news of interest to us, but it means there's potentially more news to shift through at those times. Really, it's not a big deal.

The July NAMM is also not usually as time-consuming to cover as is January, and I am going to continue to cover January, and will hopefully be able to act as backup at the end of July.

How much time it takes depends not only on the amount of news, but also on you. If you indiscriminately post every relevant news item, but don't read any, you can do it much faster. I tend to read them, so if I leave it for a week, there's generally a good solid amount of work to do.

I've been doing it for five years without a break, so I'm not asking anyone to do what I haven't. And I'm not even asking anyone to take over completely, but rather take over for hopefully no more than one month each year. I'm not expecting anyone to care as much as me either, and I won't be checking up on volunteers.

If we get more than 11 volunteers, I would prefer to start extending the time between tours of duty, but would also consider time-sharing. However, I think it's more straightforward if someone knows they're rostered on for a whole calendar month. I'm happy for volunteers to swap rosters between themselves, as long as I'm kept informed. I'd also expect to be consulted before any volunteer organised someone not on the roster to cover for them.

Jonas: Why not step up for the rest of February?? It's a short month and we're already well into it, and then you have it done with...until next year.
