for me, listening to those clips, it's obvious the l45 is louder than the 200, it'd be cooler if they were volume compensated to be exactly the same,
so the listener could listen to just the TONE difference, and not the output volume.
still, the l45's seem to have more midrange meat to them, just fuller overall, which i prefer, someone looking for skinnier typical true strat tones would probably prefer the 200's |

jus'a short impression on my pink strat with the L90/L45/L45 set:
it wasn't only me who found the L45s pretty trebly on some occasions, so i went and had me changed the 500k pot to 250k which improved things quite a bit. it's pretty interesting, maybe with some slice of voodoo: i have no tone pot in this guitar and it might do some benefit. my guitar technician said that if several things fall together and the guitar has a spot at the freq. these things are pretty unpredictable. the L90 was ok with the 500k. |

EL NINETY - This is a single pot setup? If you can add a tone pot, I would definitely do it. The pickups are designed expecting particular loads to control the
height and sharpness of the resonance. The 45s are probably more forgiving than a lot of Strat pickups in terms of resistance needed, but it also has an
intensely clear and defined high end that doesn't need further accentuation. What amp do you play through? How do you EQ?

dear handsplayingbutterfly,
yes, it has just one volume pot. my git tech said that it might lack the load of a tone control. with the 250k, it's pretty ok for me. if i chenged my mind, i'd have me a pot sunk inside the cavity... it sounded sharp through my line6 flextone (jcm800 sound), but also with my brighter tube amps (fender etc.). cheers el ninety

You could put a resistor across the outside two lugs to bring down the value. Try one 240k or a bit higher and see where that gets you.
