I am thinking about this contour for my new USACG neck.
Until now I went with C- and U-shaped necks, ranging from .800" - .820" thickness at the first fret.
I'm really looking for something fatter this time - not overly bulky but definitely meaty for bigger tone and better grip.
I had no problems playing on a 50's style fat Gibson Les Paul neck - so I'm pretty confident that I can deal with a few more pounds on the neck.
Any users of the EB and SRV contours here? (I hear both are exactly the same - the SRV is just .010" thicker).
Couple of questions:
-Does it feel meaty and fat?
-does it feel more like a C-shape or like a V-shape?
Do you feel a "spine" like one generally feels on a V-shape'd neck? I'm asking because I absolutely hate V-shape'd necks with a passion. My thumb always detects the "spine"and automatically puts pressure on it - distracting me from playing. Just have to make sure this is not the case with an asymmetrical contour.
-Any pro's and con's of an asymmetrical neck?
-When switching between guitars with symmetrical and asymmetrical necks, does it take you a long time to get used again to the different contour?
-Does it feel strange playing an asymmetrical neck - like your hand has a constant tendency to go off-balance or something
-Someone happy / unhappy?
P.s. I know that ultimately I'll have to play one myself to be able to judge. But these are really rare in local musicstores around here.
I've been to 4 different places and none had an asymmetrical neck's guitar in stock.
I might just take a chance on it...
Thanks in advance, guys
