Greetings all - I just stumbled in here while researching a new axe (an older Squier Bullet) that I just added to the
collection (2 MIMs, a Highway 1 and an Am Special). I'm trying to figure out a bit more about it. The E+6 serial number would seem to indicate 1984 to 1987
dating, but since it's clearly marked MIK and has the strat headstock I'm thinking that it may be one of the earlier 87/88 MIKs assembled from MIJ
parts. Would this make sense based on the photos? Yes, I know that the B string isn't right - that's on the short list of things to fix once it gets
here ...
Any help would be greatly appreciated ...

It's hard to say, but I would date it as 1988 at the earliest, but more likely 1989-90.

Well the "new" Bullet 1 arrived just fine. It's a little worse for wear from long term use (not shipping) but has lots of character. The red
color is killer.
It also has a few problems that I need to address. Under the guard there's something wrong electrically so I'll have to get out the multimeter and figure out what's shorted. The other issue and the reason for this message has to do with the bridge. It's got some saddles on it that I've never seen before - cast and then chromed vs. stamped. That's fine, but one of them has been replaced with a stamped Prospec saddle that's obviously for a different width bridge so everything's pushed out of line. Some of the set screws and springs have obviously been replaced with the wrong parts as well. Here's a picture : 
Does anyone recognize this bridge and ideally know a source for the saddle and/or other tiny bits? I've tried all the usual on-line sources but all I've found has been stamped or high-end machined saddles that won't work. I'd rather not replace the entire bridge if I don't have to ... Please advise / thanks in advance! |

Hi - thanks for the reply. Using my trusty highly-calibrated 6" steel ruler it looks like the original cast saddles are right at
3/8" whereas the stamped saddle labelled 'Prospec Final' (the odd man out at the back of the picture posted above) is 1/32" wider -
doesn't sound like much, but it definitely throws the low e-string off kilter just a bit to the outside.
I'd really like to get all six saddles the same and also put the right size springs and set screws on - as you can see there's quite an assortment right now. I may end up just putting on a set of six stamped saddles of the proper width if I can't find the other part at a reasonable price - the stamped saddles are a lot more plentiful and cheaper too! Any ideas? |

I've looked trough my "archive" of old bits and pieces, but unfortunately all the cast saddles I have are too wide, at 10.2mm and 10.5mm.
However I agree with nocaster. Might even improve your tone 
Maybe there are some saddles available on ebay. |
