Yes, I read it a few months ago. I found it very enjoyable to read the thoughts of the man himself. It read almost like fiction: the narrative of a man late in
life reflecting on his past.

I've read a Clapton biography. What a whiner, I thought. He wanted be as good as Jimi Hendrix or something, but was always disappointed with his own
talents. It's a few years ago since I read it, though. I enjoyed Keith Richards biography more (read them back to back, pretty much).

Clapton just released his autobiography end of last year, which I believe is what Johnnies is talking about. It's really a memoir of his experiences and
feelings. Very worth the read compared to other biographies, IMO. It's not colored by the opinion of some outside author or other sources.

Yes, I meant exactly that I've read a biography. Don't know who wrote it. Sometimes it can be nicer to read a biography written by somebody
else, but mostly, I think it's great to hear how the person him/herself remembers. Clapton isn't really on my radar currently, but I might pick that up
one time or another. For JJ Cale references, if nothing else.
The only music biography I've left unfinished is one about Knopfler. Complete utter nonsense, the writer had no idea about his topic, I felt.

Yes, it is the one that was released abut the end of last year by himself. very open and honest in my opinion. I have also noted that he puts his playing and
talent down quite often which I find interesting.
For me it is a very "civil", if you know what I mean, summary of his life. I liked how he finally is able to face his addictions and also / very familiar scheme / his love - obsession - failed relationship with Pattie... as if he was just loving an image what she might be, rather what she really was after all the years. I think it is only comparable by other autobiographies, not bographies. My favourtie other two are BB King' s and Major Dick Winter' s. As said if anyone is interested in the book, we can make some deal as I bought it new in the UK and read it onlz once, and no one else i know would read it in English. |

I could take up on your offer. It'd be nice reading on holiday and such. Not that I really need it, but I could read it and then pass it on.
I really liked the BB King one too. I strongly favour reading in English, sounds more like their own words that way.

Glad you liked it and were surprised!
Anyway, it really feels good that I was able to make your day, it was just luck on my part that I was able to do that. Oh, yeah, I am up to 200 pages on the Eric Clapton book. And I do really enjoy it thus far. Just realized it's out in Finnish now, and I just voted for the guy who translated into Finnish, in the municipal election. It's a small world, so to speak.

Wow! You live in a good neighborhood, then
The CD is really great, I am spinning it all the time. It is the kind of music I really like and I think that Ben´s playing has something fresh or light to it and a great sound for sure. Also it helped me to find out the name behind one of the best vocals in Europe IMO - Jore Marjaranta - he sung on the early LC records too, but from LC it was hard to determine who is who...(But Jore changed to softer and mid stream production as far as I know) I will have to look for more. I am glad you like the book, I found it very open and personal. It is available in czech now, but one I am not getting it as I have already read it and second reading in English makes me feel closer to the author.

Just finished the book yesterday. The ending wasn't that exciting, but he spoke with a mature voice: he is happy, he know who he is, where he wants to be
in life. So a good closing to the story.
Thanks for the great reading experience, Johnnies! And Jonas, if you too want to read the book, just let me know!

You are welcome. I also enjoyed some of the self reflection that book gives and for me it was like a heads up - do not mess around too much with your life.
I am glad you have enjoyed it. |
